An industrial visit to Russia, the world’s largest nation, borders European and Asian countries as well as the Pacific and Arctic oceans. Its landscape ranges from tundra and forests to subtropical beaches. It’s famous for Moscow’s Bolshoi and St. Petersburg’s Mariinsky ballet companies. St. Petersburg, founded by Russian leader Peter the Great, has the baroque Winter Palace, now housing part of the State Hermitage Museum’s art collection.
Russian architecture catches the eye for its Byzantine style and colourful and bright Orthodox domes but also stands out for monumental Soviet portrayals with its rationality and symmetry. Its architecture follows a tradition whose roots lie in Kievan Rus’. Students would learn the blended culture of modern and contemporary architecture on the study tour of Russia.

Itinerary

Pack your bags and head straight to the airport! With sets of pens and crayons along with your drawing books, today marks the beginning of your architecture study tour to Russia!

Welcome to Moscow, the capital city of Russia! After a 10-hour flight, cool down, acclimatise, and wash off your jet lag with the refreshing weather of this city.

Witness the experimental and radical architecture in the capital city. Study the Constructivist architecture of the Tsentrosoyuz Building, Narkomfim Building (a Cultural Heritage Monument of Russia), and Corbusier House.
Later, visit VDNKh, an all-purpose trade show and amusement park.
At night, visit the famous Hilton Leningradskaya hotel and study its Stalinist Neoclassical style of architecture.

Day 4 :
Kremlin!

Rise up to visit the fortified Kremlin! Today, we’ll cover the most famous places known for their beautiful architecture and historical importance in the Russian Revolution. Study the architecture of the Kremlin Armoury, its cathedrals, the beautiful Ivan the Great Bell Tower, and the very famous St. Basil’s Cathedral.
In the afternoon, visit the architect's paradise, the Shchusev Museum of Architecture—the National Architecture Museum of Russia—where you’ll find and study more than 1 million items.
Next, we catch up with Russia’s best architect’s work and visit his house, known as Melnikov House.

Today, see Soviet Architecture come alive! The places you visit were constructed because of a revolution, so understand the history and their reasons, and be awed by these structures! The first visit will be to the House of Embankment—a huge residential, commercial, and luxurious hotel. Next, visit Sparrow Hills followed by Shukhov Tower, a steel diagrid structure built during the 1920 Civil War.
Visit Moscow University in the evening and study the grand architecture with its fantastic history. Sketch it, photograph it, study it, or simply admire the magnificent structure.
The evening will be free to catch up on some local shopping and enjoy the local cuisine.

After filling your tummies in the morning, it’s time for a ‘high-speed scenic journey’ to St. Petersburg! The journey, spanning roughly 4 hours, is bound to give you a one-of-a-kind experience.
Once in St. Petersburg by noon, we cool ourselves down, take a small tour by bus, and spend time at leisure.

Be welcomed by the grand and humongous Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. Visit the Winter Palace Square and sketch its architecture. Later, check out the Hermitage Museum and its gala rooms.
In the afternoon, visit the great Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood, the Grand Choral Synagogue, and Saint Isaac’s Cathedral. Be inspired by the fascinating onion domes, splendid interiors, magical paintings, and much more!

Our first stop today will be at Catherine’s Summer Palace! This stunning palace was originally built in Rococo style or Late Baroque style of architecture and later modified and renovated in a grand way. A study visit to this place will help students get exposure to the best of European architecture.
Next stop is the Grand Peterhof Palace, referred to as the Russian Versailles—a UNESCO World Heritage Site! The planning and architectural design of this 1.02 km² garden palace will surely leave you in awe.
